The article is devoted to the analysis of the plot structure and the system of nominal formulas of the epic characters of olonkho “Toyon Nyurgun” by N. F. Popov, one of the early texts of the so-called “Boturus” epic tradition. The article considers the uniqueness of the plot-compositional organization and the semantics of the names of the characters, revealing their mythological component. The relevance of this article lies in the fact that N. F. Popov’s olonkho “Toyon Nyurgun” is examined for the first time as an early archaic text representing the so-called “Boturus” (now Churapcha, Tatta, and Amgin) epic tradition of the Yakut olonkho epic. Within this tradition, olonkho stories about the Nyurgun heroes were widespread and were present in the repertoire of many epic tradition bearers. The study was conducted using structural-typological and comparative-contrastive methods. The article reveals the uniqueness of olonkho “Toyon Nyurgun” by N. F. Popov as a typologically significant epic text that preserved the archaic layers of the oral tradition of the Yakut people.
