The article examines polysemantic figurative verbs of onomatopoeic origin in the Yakut language. The aim of the study is to identify the specific features of polysemy in figurative verbs of onomatopoeic origin. To achieve this aim, the following tasks were set: searching for polysemantic figurative verbs of onomatopoeic origin, determining the pathways for the emergence of polysemy in figurative verbs, and establishing semantic models by which meanings are formed in figurative verbs of onomatopoeic origin. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time, polysemantic figurative verbs of onomatopoeic origin are the object of study and semantic models for the development of meanings in figurative verbs are determined. The study utilized methods of semantic analysis and the construction of semantic derivations. The analysis revealed that the most semantically productive onomatopoeic roots are byl- and nyal-. A regular semantic model “sound → external form → shape of body parts / body” was established, which is present in virtually all the polysemantic figurative verbs of onomatopoeic origin considered.
