Yakutia is one of the coldest regions in the Northern Hemisphere, where negative air temperatures reach record lows, and winters last more than 220 days a year. Despite the extreme nature-climatic conditions of the region, local horses are well adapted to this environment, thanks to remarkable phenotypic adaptations, including compact body structures, extremely fluffy winter wool and sharp seasonal differences in metabolic activity. It has been found that during the cold period the activity of the Yakut horse decreases. Thus, the respiratory rate in animals is reduced by 40-50%, the respiratory volume by 36.4% and the level of heat production.
