Отдельное внимание уделяется роли английской сестры милосердия Кэт Марсден в его открытии. Вилюйский лепрозорий внес значительный вклад в борьбе с лепрой, считавшейся символом безнадежности, отверженности, страха.
The article is devoted to the history of the creation and activities of the Vilyuy leper colony and its role in the fight against leprosy, a common disease among the Yakut population. Special attention is paid to the role of the English nurse Kate Marsden in its opening.
